Can I give you a second helping? 

お代わりはいかがですか？と言う時の表現です。

Help yourself.

ご自分で（お好みの量を）取ってお食べ下さい、というような意味です。

"help(ing)"が日本語の「お代わり」や「食べる」の意味で使われるこれらの表現を習うのは高校英語だったでしょうか？

深く考えることも無く丸暗記するのが学校英語の良くないところ、などと身勝手な教育批判を展開するようで恐縮ですが、ヘルプ（助け）が何故「お代わり」にもなるのか、不思議に思いながらも説明してもらったことはなかったように記憶しますし、調べることもしていませんでした。

Online Etymology Dictionaryによれば、"help"のこうした意味はフランス語servir（＝serve）と関係があるそうで、"helping"が食べ物や飲み物の「一杯分」の意味で使われるようになったのもこれに関連しているそうです。

ところで、下記の記事で使われている"helping"はちょっと奇異に感じられます。

"double-helping" (of hurricanes)とは、ハリケーンの直撃を2度受けた、という意味でしょう。

被害甚大に違いありませんが、それを"helping"で表現するというのはちょっと変わっているなと思いました。

果たして、"helping (of)"に続く名詞としては、当事者にとって望ましくないものもあり得るのでしょうか？

こういう時はコーパスが役に立ちます。

結論から言うと、あまり目立った用法ではありませんが、そのような例がないわけではありません。

何故か、日本語で「見舞う」という表現を思い浮かべました。

入院する人を「見舞う」という場合と、被害に「見舞われる」というような表現が"help(ing)"と使われ方の面で似ているかもしれません。
