Kondo-ing

英語のニュース記事を読む場合、タイトル、あるいは見出し、リード部分で大体どんな記事か（何に関する記事か）が分かりますが、時にまったく分からないことがあります。

ひとつには私自身の英語力が十分でないということは言うまでもありませんが、英語のボキャブラリーや文法の知識というよりも、話題になっていること（トレンド）に通じているかどうかということがポイントだったりします。

はこの動詞の元になっている近藤さんを知らないとちょっと分からないでしょう。

読めば分かるとおり、"Kondo-ing"は"Marie Kondo"さんから来ています。近藤麻理枝さんをご存知でしょうか？

本文と記事の写真を見て、あっと思ったのですが、テレビを見ない私も新聞の広告などでこの人を見た覚えがありました。たしか「片付けコンサルタント」だとか。

"Kondo-ing"とは、近藤麻理枝さんが推奨する方法論で片付けを行うことを指していると理解できます。

実に、人の名前が動詞として使われるようになったわけですが、同記事中にも下記のように使われています。


Kondo calls her process the KonMari Method, and her fans use her last name as a verb, as in, “I Kondo’d my refrigerator last night.”
