ドライアイ ー dry eye

ドライアイ、と言いますとPC画面の見過ぎなどによって引き起こされる目の乾きの症状のことですが、英文で用いられる場合にはちょっと違った意味があるようです。

以下の引用を読んでみましょう。

この記事において"dry eye"は臨床症状としてのドライアイのことではありません。

ユーイング肉腫という希少疾患を患う青年が入院先の集中治療室で恋人との結婚式を挙げた、というコンテストで、その場に居合わせた誰もが"Dry eye"ではなかった、というのは逆に言えば、誰もが"dry eye"の反対である、"wet eye"であった、ということです。つまり、感動のあまり涙を流していた、という解釈となります。

"ドライアイ"があまりにも眼の症状として人口に膾炙することになった今日、英文でも"dry eye"はそちらのイメージに引っ張られます。

果たして、"dry eye"が引用した記事のような意味合いで用いられるのはスタンダードなのでしょうか？

答えは、Yesのようです。コーパスの検索では同様の用例が認められます。
