It emerged as the trial of two women accused of killing Kim by smearing VX nerve agent on his face at the behest of suspected North Korean agents is underway at Malaysia's High Court.

北朝鮮の金総書記の異母兄である、キム・ジョンナム氏がマレーシアの空港で暗殺されたのは今年2月のことでしたが、空港のセキュリティカメラの映像が公開されました。

暗殺直後の様子を捉えた映像とみられ、ジョンナム氏が担架に載せられているものです。

"gurney"という見慣れない単語が使われています。

この"gurney"というのは、"stretcher"、つまり担架のことです。

記事中には"stretcher"という単語も使われているのですが、敢えて"gurney"を記事のタイトルに使っているのは訳があるのでしょうか。

"gurney"という単語の語源を調べてみますと、Merriam-Webster Dictionaryによれば、J. Theodore Gurneyという人の名前だそうです。

Gurney氏が発明し、特許取得したGurney cabというものは、馬にひかせるものだったそうですが、それが病院で使われる担架の意味になった経緯はよくわかりません。

一方、Online Etymology Dictionaryによると、語源不詳ということであり、Gurney Ball Bearing Co.という、自動車用のベアリングを製造している会社名に因むとあります。

どちらも、Gurneyが人の名前であるという点は一致しているようです。
