そういえば昔、子供の頃、誕生日会に仲の良いお友達を読んでパーティーをするみたいなことが流行っていたなあ、などと思い出しました。

何故か私は招待されたこともなければ、自身の誕生日パーティーに家族以外の誰かを招待するということもありませんでしたが。

記事のおはなしは、32人のお友達を招待して、近所のピザレストランの予約までしていたのに誰も来なかった、という当の本人には大変悲しい出来事です。

記事のタイトルにも出てくるのですが、


birthday bash


という表現は、つまり"birthday party"です。

"bash"には、


a festive social gathering; party
(Merriam-Webster Dictionary)


の意味があります。

10月も半ばとなり、これからホリデーシーズンが続きます。

巷ではハロウィーン商戦が既に喧しいですが、渋谷のどんちゃん騒ぎは"Halloween bash"とでも表現できるでしょう。

11月に入ると感謝祭、それが終われば"Christmas bash"に向かって狂騒が始まります。

とどめは、"New Year's Eve bash"です。

ちなみに、金曜夜の飲み会は"Friday night bash"と表現したりもするようです。
