各投稿に分類タグをつけていますが（モバイル表示では見えないようですが）、単語のスペルの最初の文字で分類をしています。

最も多いのがアルファベットの"s"で始まる単語で、現時点で374語となっています。次いで、アルファベット"b"、"c"がそれぞれ243語、"p"が211語、と続きます。

想像がつくかと思いますが、"x"、"y"、"z"、"j"、"k"で始まる単語は少ないです。一番少ないのが"x"で始まる単語で3語、その次に少ないのが"z"で始まる単語の10語となっています。

とういことで、今日は久しぶりにアルファベットの"z"で始まる単語を取り上げました。

その単語というのは、"zoonotic"です。

"zoonotic disease"、"zoonotic transmission"といった形で使われていますが、これは獣から人に感染する病気のことを指しています。

元は名詞である、"zoonosis"から来ており、これは人獣伝染病、動物原性感染症などと訳されます。

新型コロナウィルス感染症の起源についてはコウモリだったと言われていますが、まさに"zoonotic disease"と言われるゆえんです。

zoo-はご存知の通り動物を意味しますが、-osisという接尾辞はギリシャ語で病気を意味するnososから来ています。

"sclerosis"（硬化症）や"pollinosis"（花粉症）など、病名の多くにこの接尾辞が使われていますね。
