外出時はマスクを持って出かけるのが必須となった今日ですが、マスク着用を巡ってはトラブルが絶えません。

特にレストランや店舗が客にマスク着用を求める場合に、客側が逆ギレするケースはニュースになることも多く、枚挙に暇がありません。

マスク着用を求める側に対して逆ギレするだけでもどうかと思うのですが、キレた挙句、腹いせに小便をするとは聞いたことがありません。

冒頭の、

で使われている、"peed-off"というフレーズは、怒った、イライラした、という意味なのですが、"pee"はそもそも小便の意味です。

というわけで、"peed off"という表現にはしゃれが利いています。

後半でてくる、"peevish"もある意味しゃれを意識したものかもしれません。

小便については"piss"という単語もありますが、"pee"は幼児語とされます。よって、ランダムハウス英和によれば、"peed off"は"pissed off"の婉曲語法なのだとか。
