岸田首相が米国を訪問中です。

今回の公式訪問は国賓待遇だそうですが、安倍前首相の前回訪問（2015年4月）以来、9年振りとのことです。

岸田首相と裕子夫人は昨晩（米国時間）はワシントンD.C.のレストランでの夕食会に招待されたようですが、今晩（米国時間10日夜）はホワイトハウスにて公式晩餐会（state dinner）が催されるそうです。

ガーディアン紙が公式晩餐会の内容について詳報しています。

Dry-aged rib eye steak, cherry blossoms and the music of Paul Simon will be provided for the more than 200 guests expected to attend a White House state dinner being thrown for Japan’s prime minister, Fumio Kishida, his wife, Yuko.

A lavish state dinner is a tool of US diplomacy, and a high honour that is used sparingly and only to America’s closest allies. In the case of Japan, President Joe Biden has chosen to celebrate an ally that he sees as a cornerstone of his policy toward the Indo-Pacific region.

The guests will dine on a first course of house-cured salmon and an entree of dry-aged rib eye steak with pepper butter, fava beans, mushrooms and onions. Dessert is salted caramel pistachio cake with a matcha ganache and cherry ice-cream.

岸田首相夫妻と200名以上の招待客に振舞われるディナーメニューのメインはやはりステーキのようです。

ステーキの添え物に、

with pepper butter, fava beans, mushrooms and onions

とあります。"fava beans"というのはソラマメのことです。（"broad beans"とも言います。）

面白いのですが、"fava"というのはイタリア語で、そのイタリア語はラテン語fabaから来ているのですが、ラテン語fabaの意味は豆です。

なので、"fava beans"は「豆豆」ということになります（笑）

お偉いさんの豪奢な食事内容など庶民の私には関係ないのですが・・・。
