bloom

There are some people who are serious about their chocolate--and one scientific team is definitely in this category. Researchers have conducted an X-ray study that may lead to improvements in the quality of chocolate.

When making chocolate, a fat bloom can occur. This is an unwelcome white layer that occasionally forms on chocolate. It can be created when liquid fats, such as cocoa butter, migrate through the chocolate to the surface and crystallize there. This can occur when liquid chocolate cools down in an uncontrolled manner and unstable crystal forms. Even at room temperature, though, a quarter of the lipids contained in chocolate are already in a liquid state.
(Catherine Griffin. Scientists X-ray Chocolate to Improve the Sweet Dessert. Science World Report. May 6, 2015.)

Merriam-Webster Dictionaryでは、"a grayish discoloration on chocolate"と定義があります。

bar

New York State will begin using a standard bar examination given in 15 other states next summer, making it the largest state so far to adopt what amounts to a national credential for lawyers, the state’s chief judge, Jonathan Lippman, announced on Tuesday.
(New York to Adopt a Uniform Bar Exam Used in 15 Other States. New York Times. May 5, 2015.)

go to the bar

Hercules has been crushed — because of a selfie!

A couple of tourists are in hot water after climbing onto a priceless marble statue of the mythical Greek hero in the northern city of Cremona, Italy, the Daily Mail reported.

The miscreants put too much weight on the statue at the Loggia dei Militi palace during their boneheaded bid to snap a photo of themselves — shattering the crown of the Statue of the Two Hercules.

Experts will determine if the statue — which is considered the symbol of Cremona — can be repaired.

The two shutterbugs, whose identities were not released, may face charges.
(Yaron Steinbuch. Selfie-taking tourists shatter priceless Hercules statue. New York Post. May 4, 2015.)

No, we do not, as yet, know her name.

But the newborn daughter of Prince William and Duchess Kate is already a fashion plate.

That delicate, cozy shawl she was wrapped in while leaving St. Mary’s hospital with her parents?

It was made by G.H. Hurt and Son.

And guess what? Their stuff is affordable. We doubt that’s why Kate likes it, but she used the comfy swaddlers with firstborn Prince George as well.
(Donna Freydkin. William and Kate's princess already makes a style statement. USA Today. May 3, 2015.)

fashion plate

(CNN) This news may mean the end for the ultimate selfie killer, the double chin. The Food and Drug Administration will now let you say bye-bye to nasty neck fat and hello to a jawline that doesn't jiggle. The agency approved the first drug that can eliminate neck fat in most people without surgery.

The drug, known by its commercial name of Kybella, is a deoxycholic acid made by Californa's Kythera Biopharmaceuticals. This is the same acid your body produces to help it absorb fat. It takes only a few minutes for a licensed dermatologist to inject it under the jawline right into your fat tissue.
(Jen Christensen. FDA approves new drug to dissolve chin fat. CNN. May 1, 2015.)

The drug immediately goes to work on your wattle, destroying the cell membrane of what doctors call "submental fat," causing it to burst and go away permanently. That's great news for patients seeking improvement in an area many people consider a real problem. About 68% of people surveyed by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery in 2014 named excess fat under the chin and neck one of their top concerns. Many people say they think a double chin makes them look older than they actually are.
(ibid.)

Merriam-Webster Dictionary

a fleshy pendulous process usually about the head or neck (as of a bird)
