体の部位に関連する表現（1）＝shoulder ― cold shoulder

ある言語において、人間の体の特定の部位が独特の表現の構成要素になっていることが多いものです。表現は言語によって似通っている場合も多いと思いますし、あるいはまったく異なる概念で用いられている場合もあるかと思います。

日本語でも、

肩たたき、
肩を怒らす、
肩を並べる、

など、肩という特定の部位に関連した表現が多くありますが、英語ではどうでしょうか？

"cold shoulder"は、”冷たい態度、よそよそしさ”や”冷遇”、あるいは”無視”といった意味があります。

スキャンダルに見舞われたプロゴルファーのTiger Woodsですが、早速CM契約の打ち切りなど、スポンサーによる冷遇が始まったようです。

NEW YORK — Tiger Woods, one of the hottest marketing symbols on the planet, is getting the cold shoulder on television where ads featuring the golf star have disappeared since news broke of his philandering.

Nielsen, the New York-based consumer research company, said the formerly ubiquitous Woods had not appeared in a prime-time TV commercial since a November 29 Gillette ad.

That was two days after his image went into freefall with a car accident outside his Florida home and subsequent revelations of a marital crisis over his alleged affairs with a string of women.

Reports that Woods may have been under the influence of alcohol, a sedative and a pain-killer when he crashed threaten to deepen the crisis.
