パンデミックの影響で、マスク着用はもはや「当たり前」、さらに「正しいマスクの着用方法」が問われることになってきました。

先日の朝刊では、マスクを着用しているものの、鼻部分までを覆わない「鼻出し」（half-masking）の問題が取り沙汰されていました。

また、様々なマスクの種類（不織布マスクや布マスク）やフェイスガード等、PPEの種類別にウィルス拡散防止、感染予防能力の差があることも、素人レベルでも常識になってきました。

ところでアメリカでは、マスクを二重にして着用する、"double masking"が注目されています。

先日の大統領就任式に出席した多くの関係者がこの"double masking"で登場したことから注目を集めているようですが、そのほとんどは不絹布マスクの上に布マスクを着用するというものです。

米国ではファウチ博士もその有効性にお墨付きを与えています。

They say two heads are better than one, but can the same be said for masks?

The answer is yes, according to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert.

“So, if you have a physical covering with one layer, you put another layer on, it just makes common sense that it likely would be more effective," Fauci told "NBC News’ TODAY" on Monday. “That’s the reason why you see people either double masking or doing a version of an N95.”

Double masking was in the spotlight last week during President Joe Biden’s inauguration, where several high-profile officials and celebrities were photographed wearing two masks.

とありますが、これは頭は1つよりも2つの方がベター、ということで、日本語で言うところの、

三人寄れば文殊の知恵

という諺の英語版です。

マスクは「1枚よりも2枚が効果的（ベター）」という話題に掛けたシャレですね。

怒られそうですが、マスク1枚でも煩わしく感じる私は、2枚だと余計に息苦しくなるような気がしてなりません。
