8千円のティッシュペーパー！？ ― boogery tissues

寒さ本番、この週末は冷えましたね。インフルエンザも警報レベルとなり、予防がますます重要となります。

ところで、アメリカでは一箱（？）が80ドル（約8千円）もするティッシュペーパーが売りに出されているようです。

なんでも風邪のウィルスが付着したティッシュペーパーという触れ込みだとか！？

A new startup is selling $80 tissues infected with the common cold virus — and claims they’ll help you stay healthy.

Vaev Tissue, an LA-based startup, aims to get its customers sick in order to build up their immune system. Instead of being bombarded with the cold when you least expect it, Vaev says this allows you to schedule when you get sick, so you can get it out of the way. The company’s website brags that these boogery tissues are “safer than needles or pills.”

Founder Oliver Niessen tells Time that choosing when you’ll get sick is a “luxury … I mean, we customize everything in our lives and we have everything the way that we want it, so why not approach sickness that way as well?”

清潔であるべきティッシュペーパーがウィルス付き、とは一体何を考えているのかと訝りましたが、製造元によれば、免疫をつけたい人が利用する想定だということです。

また、あらかじめ風邪にかかることで、ここ一番という時に風邪にならないよう、あらかじめ計画的に（！？）感染するという贅沢が売りなのだとか。

専門家は科学的に問題ありと見解を発表しているそうですが、ネットでは売り切れ状態らしいです。

と記事に出てきますが、この"boogery"は"booger"のことで、意味を知りませんでしたので辞書を引くと、「鼻くそ」とありました。

見慣れない単語なのは米南部の方言に由来するからのようです。

他人の鼻くそがついているかもしれないティッシュペーパーを8千円も出して購入する人の気がしれませんが、以前取り上げたChickenpox partyの話題を思い出しました。
