プロゴルファーのタイガー・ウッズが14年ぶり(？)、5回目のマスターズトーナメントでの勝利を納め、大きな話題となっています。

タイガー・ウッズと言えば、不倫騒動やその後の薬物摂取下での自動車運転の不祥事、さらには腰や膝のケガによるプレー成績の低迷など、2010年くらいから最近まで非常に困難な状況にあったところ、本当に久しぶりに本業であるゴルフでの勝利を納めたというところです。

Washington (CNN) — President Donald Trump said Monday that he'll award golfer Tiger Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, after Woods won his fifth Masters title over the weekend.

"Spoke to @TigerWoods to congratulate him on the great victory he had in yesterday's @TheMasters, & to inform him that because of his incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE, I will be presenting him with the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM!" Trump tweeted Monday afternoon.

The Medal of Freedom recognizes individuals who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors," according to the executive order designating the award.

快挙の報を受けて、これまたゴルフ好きなトランプ大統領はさっそくウッズ氏に"the Presidential Medal of Freedom"を贈るとツイッターに書き込みました。

この"the Presidential Medal of Freedom"は英和辞書にもちゃんと載っていて、


自由勲章：　米国国家の保全･利益、世界の平和･文化、その他に多大な貢献をした市民に大統領が授与する勲章

とあります。

日本で言えば国民栄誉賞みたいなものでしょうか。
