rollback

昔、情報システム関連の業務に従事していたことがありまして、"rollback"と聞くとデータベースの「ロールバック」（障害発生前のデータに戻す作業）を想起してしまいます。

下記の記事で用いられている"rollback"はこれとは異なる意味で、価格を下げることを意味しているのですが、そのような意味があるとは知りませんでした。

米市場はインフレ傾向にあるらしいですが、ウォルマートは日用品などの価格をディスカウントして（"rollback"して）、競合と差別化を図る戦略のようです。

改めて"rollback"の定義を確認してみました。

A reduction, especially in prices or wages, to a previous lower level by governmental action or direction

(American Heritage Dictionary)

政府が介入して行うというのが、上記に限らずどの辞書にも見られる説明なのですが、単純に減少や削減することを意味するのにも使われるようです。
