次期アメリカ大統領選は2024年ですが、先日取り上げた記事でも触れたように、保守層においては未だトランプ元大統領への期待があり、共和党では指名を勝ち取るのではないかという見方が強いようです。

引用した記事のタイトルに着目してみましょう。

とありますが、ここでの"a lock"という表現が意味するところ不勉強にして知りませんでした。

鍵を意味する名詞の"lock"に同じですが、確実視されているもの、という意味があり、

one that is assured of success or favorable outcome

(Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

という定義を確認できます。（一方、手元にある研究社新英和大辞典には載っていませんでした。）

鍵にしても、安全装置としてのロックにしても、固定して動かないようにする、というのが原義としてありますから、その意味で「確実なものにする」という意味合いになるのは納得感があります。
