米・民主党のハワイ州選出の議員が党を批判して離党を表明したそうです。

同様に3年前に民主党を離党し共和党に移籍した議員が賛同の意を示しています。

The congressman who left the Democratic Party three years ago to join the GOP commended former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard for leaving the party as well, saying that moderate Democrats "don’t exist anymore."

Rep. Jeff Van Drew, R-N.J., commended Gabbard for her departure, saying in a statement to Fox News Digital that Democrats who love America have no other choice than to leave the party.

In her video announcement, Gabbard blasted the Democratic Party as being controlled by "an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness" who are dividing Americans "by racializing every issue" and stoking "anti-white racism."

Gabbard also called on other moderate Democrats to leave the party in the video.

離党を表明した議員のコメントでは、米・民主党は、

"an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness"

と批判しています。

"cabal"という単語は見慣れないものだったのですが、グループ、団体、というような意味であろうと文脈から判断出来ますし、実際のところほとんど同義です。

辞書を引いてみると、

（小人数の）陰謀団、秘密結社；徒党

などの日本語が見え、どうやらネガティヴな意味合いがあるようです。

動詞の"cabal"は、徒党を組む、陰謀を企てる、策動する、という意味で、これらは明らかにネガティブなものです。

ところで、辞書を眺めていますと、興味深いことに、かつて17世紀後半の英国を治めたチャールズ2世王が政治顧問団として任命した5名の頭文字*を取るとCABALになったという解説があります。（語源という訳ではありません。"cabal"という単語の由来は、ヘブライ語からラテン語を経て英語に入ったものです。）

"Cabal cabinet"（カバル内閣）とも呼ばれたこの5人による政治が陰謀めいたものだったのかは、世界史教科書を改めて読んだのですが分かりませんでした。
