バレバレ － telegraph

別に転職を検討しているとかではないんですが、面接（job interview）の話題には反応してしまいます。

過去に2度ほど転職していますが、面接には「予習」、つまり十分な準備が必要と思います。

今日目に留まった記事は、面接で（候補者が）してはいけない質問、というものなのですが、その中で興味深いくだりを見てみましょう。

Whether it's fair or not, some managers will perceive initial interview questions about remote work as telegraphing the wrong priorities. Even for me, it's an immediate red flag.

Imagine this scenario: You close your interview with a question about remote work and get a chilly reception. The next day, the hiring manager meets another candidate who says they could be in the office bright and early the next Monday morning.

Sure, you may be more qualified. But there is a real chance that the other job seeker will be perceived as more committed. This might hold true even for managers at companies that have very robust remote work policies.

取り上げられているのは「リモートワーク」です。候補者が志望する企業のリモートワーク制度について質問するのは一発アウトではないでしょうが、順番や質問のタイミングを間違えると、働く気があるのか疑われるかも知れないというのは分かる気もします。

記事で、

some managers will perceive initial interview questions about remote work as telegraphing the wrong priorities

とあるのですが、この"telegraph"という表現を取り上げてみたいと思います。

"telegraph"というのは、電信、電報のことですが、ここでは動詞で、

（意図などを）うっかり相手に漏らす、気づかせる、感づかせる

という意味で用いられています。

同様の意味合いの用例をコーパスで探してみました。

この用法では「うっかりと」、「意図せずに」、というのがミソですが、受け取る側にしてみればバレバレだ、ということです。

 これから就職活動を迎える学生のみなさんは、本音が透けて見えないよう、質問内容には気をつけましょうね（笑）
