昨日岸田首相が突然に退陣表明し、トップニュースとなりました。
海外メディアも大きく報じています。
記者会見で首相は自民党総裁選に出馬しない意向であると表明。直接の言及はしませんでしたが、このところの支持率低迷、党内からの辞任圧力がこのタイミングでの退陣表明につながったと見られています。
どっかで見たような構図だな、と思ったのは私だけでしょうか？
One expert said the move was reminiscent of U.S. President Joe Biden dropping out of the presidential race less than a month ago.
"To me this is Kishida 'pulling a Joe Biden' and realizing (wisely) he's just not the best face for his party come election time," said William Pesek, author of "Japanization: What the World Can Learn from Japan's Lost Decades."
While Biden withdrew in the wake of a disastrous debate performance, Kishida's tenure was hounded by a scandal embroiling his party as well as an economy prone to deflationary pressure.

そうです、先月末、バイデン大統領が民主党内や支持者からの圧力で大統領選から離脱表明したのとほとんど同じ構図ではないでしょうか？
引用した記事で、

とあります。
ここでの"pull"の意味を今日取り上げたいのですが、
pull a person
というパターンで、ある人を模倣する、（言動などを）真似る、倣う、というような意味合いで用いられるようです。
「ようです」と書くのは、辞書にはそれらしき説明が見当たらないからですが、pullという単語には実に様々な意味や慣用表現があり、私が見逃しているかも知れません。また、全ての辞書をチェックした訳でもありません。
コーパスで拾った用例をもうひとつ。

"pull a person"の"person"に来るのは固有名詞、個人名であることが特徴のようですが、不定冠詞の"a"がその前に付いているということも重要なポイントと思われます。
この用例にしても、また岸田首相の退陣表明にしても、「先例に倣う」、「前へならえ」といった意味合いが近いでしょうか。
